Homeshield Scotland Doors Glasgow - FAQs

Here are some of our frequently asked questions by our customers.

The security features of the door are split up into six different points:

Opposing Steel Hooks – Opposing steel hooks are lock mechanisms on the sides of the door. When you close the door, the hooks extend and slot themselves into the frame of the door, holding it securely in place. The steel hooks have high levels of durability and strength, making the door incredibly hard to force open, especially since it’s often used in conjunction with other security features.

Anti-Lift Deadbolt Lock – As the name suggests, this locking mechanism was designed to prevent attacks that involve lifting the door out of its frame. It works by using a special mechanism in the lock of a door to keep it firmly in place from any sort of tampering with the door’s positioning.

Pre-compression Rollers – These rollers are built into the lock of the door. When the door is closed, the rollers then engage pre-compression energy that keeps the gaps in the door filled with a force that effectively “seals” the gaps. This force keeps the door highly secure, not dissipating until the door is opened, which is only really feasible if it’s unlocked. As an extra bonus, the pre-compression energy created by the rollers also acts as a blocker for heat, meaning that you will lose much less energy through the doors of your house.

Deadlock Hatch – Deadlock hatches are mechanisms that are designed to provide extra security by keeping your door locked from within, on the indoor side of the door. This is a latch/bolt that extends from the lock mechanism and slots itself into a separate mechanism designed to hold it. This is a fairly common mechanism, but used in conjunction with other security measures, it enhances the level of protection your door provides your home.

Centre Hook Mechanism – This is a type of deadbolt lock that features a hook mechanism positioned in the centre of the lock. It operates by using a key or thumb turn on the inside of the house. When activated, it extends from the lock into the keeper within the frame, providing a secure hold. Its strength is provided through its steel material, despite its sleek and minimalistic appearance.

The glass that we supply with our doors is similar to the glass used for windows. Something that we are passionate about is providing energy-efficient glazing to all of our customers, thereby saving them from the costs of wasted energy. Through our A+ rated glass and the thermal savings you make, your windows will eventually pay for themselves in time.

For more information on the types of glass and windows that we provide, take a look at our page on windows.

The five formats of doors that we offer are as follows:

uPVC – uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) is a material that is highly resistant to weather, rot and corrosion, making them ideal for use on the outside. They don’t require painting or staining and can be easily cleaned. They are highly energy efficient, making excellent insulators to keep your home warm in the winter. As always, this helps reduce energy bills. They are available in a wide range of styles and colours.

Patio Doors – Patio doors come with large window panes that let in a great deal of natural light, making the transition from inside to outside seamless. They are very pleasing to look at and come in a variety of styles, colours and finishes to match your home’s decor. With the ability to slide open, you can easily allow fresh air to circulate.

French Doors – French Doors have a classic and sophisticated design typically made out of wood but also come available in uPVC and aluminium. They have large glass panes that let in a lot of natural light, which will be heavily insulated and have higher energy efficiency.

Bi-Fold Doors – Bi-fold doors have a very modern design that combines minimalism alongside higher-tier standards such as energy efficiency and security. The vast majority of the door is made up of glass, except for the hinges and the thin frames. The most unique thing about these bi-fold doors is that, unlike sliding doors that leave at least one panel in the doorway, they fold completely into themselves.

Composite Doors – Composite doors are highly durable, highly secure doors made up of a combination of materials, hence the name. Alongside coming in a wide range of styles, and colours, and being energy efficient with our high standard of security – they also have excellent soundproofing, which makes them perfect for a home by a busy road or where other external noise could disturb you.
